Other Dangerous Drugs and Medical Devices

DeCarli Law keeps current on all drug and medical device recalls and injuries. Below are some dangerous drugs and medical devices in addition to gadolinium-based contrast agents, YAZ/Yasmin/Ocella/Zarah, Darvon/Darvocet/Propoxyphene, Fosamax, and Reglan/Metoclopramide.

Levaquin Can Cause Achilles Tendon Rupture

Levaquin, also known as Levofloxacin and Tavanic, is a powerful antibiotic for use against bacterial infections. Achilles tendon rupture is a Levaquin side effect, potentially causing permanent loss of mobility and requiring surgery.

Duragesic Fentanyl Pain Patch

Duragesic is an adhesive “pain patch” applied to the skin, and intended to deliver a steady dose of fentanyl, a powerful opiate painkiller. However, Duragesic pain patches have been recalled because they have manufacturing defects that can cause the fentanyl to leak, leading to fatal overdoses.

Shoulder Pain Pump

A shoulder pain pump is a device that delivers pain medication directly into the shoulder joint through a catheter. Pain pumps have been found to cause chondrolysis, a condition in which the cartilage between the ball and socket of the shoulder disintegrates. When this cartilage is lost, the bones come into direct contact with each other, causing extreme pain and loss of range of motion.

Zicam Can Cause Loss of Sense of Smell

Zicam is a brand of cold and allergy remedies whose main ingredient is zinc. In June of 2009, the FDA warned consumers that Zicam can cause permanent loss of the sense of smell. Zicam lawsuits have been filed by people who have lost their sense of smell after using Zicam.
