The long-term side effects from Proscar (generic name Finasteride) will likely mean the FDA orders its manufacturer, Merck & Co., Inc., to significantly strengthen the drug's warning. As of May 7, 2011, Merck's products contain no warning that the use of Proscar or Propecia can cause permanent erectile dysfunction (ED), impotence, and loss of sex drive.
