Zarah is a generic form of the oral contraceptive Yasmin. Zarah is sold by Watson Pharmaceuticals, which has a large facility in Corona, California. Because Zarah has the same ingredients as Yasmin, it comes with the same risk of side effects. Watson Pharmaceuticals obtained approval from the FDA to sell Zarah in the United States on September 7, 2010.

drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol.
Drospirenone is a synthetic progestin that acts as a potassium-sparing diuretic. This means that women using both Zarah and Yasmin run the risk of developing abnormally high potassium levels in their bodies (
hyperkalemia). Another similar birth control formulation that also comes with these risks is YAZ, manufactured by Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals.
